What is GLA:D?

GLA:D, Good Life with osteoArthritis: Denmark is an evidence-based education and exercise program developed by researchers in Denmark for people with hip or knee osteoarthritis symptoms.

Is GLA:D for me?

GLA:D is a program for all individuals who experience hip and/or knee OA symptoms, regardless of severity.

GLA:D has been shown to help people of all ages with mild, moderate and severe osteoarthritis by reducing pain, increasing mobility and enhancing the quality of life.  Often surgery such as joint replacement can be avoided. Current Australian and international clinical guidelines recommend patient education, exercise and weight loss as first-line treatment for osteoarthritis, with joint replacement currently.

You may not be able to participate in the GLA:D® Australia program if:

Structure of GLA:D at Core Physio + Pilates

  • Initial assessment with one of our GLA:D certified physiotherapists
  • 2 group education sessions that will teach you the ins and outs of OA and how the GLA:D exercises help with joint pain and stability. 
  • 2 x 60 minute group exercise sessions, per week for 6 weeks
  • Follow up re-assessment at 3 months

What should I bring with me?

Please bring along any referrals, scans, x-rays or reports which you may have.

How long is my GLA:D appointment?

GLA:D classes are 60 mins. Initial appointment is 60 mins and follow-up at 3 months are 30 mins – 60 mins.

What should I wear to my appointment?

You should wear clothes that are comfortable for you to move around in. Non slip socks are recommended if you have them.

Can I claim a rebate for GLA:D?

These sessions are claimable with private health insurance. Please call reception regarding EPC referrals from your GP.
